"I'm going to kill you once I get there! Do you hear me, you son of a bitch?!" I roared into the phone, speeding through the city streets like a maniac. My blood drummed in my ears and terror like I’d never known before gripped me.

If he touched a hair on my Cathy’s head, I’d tear him limb from limb…

It seemed the people that called Jason weren’t with the police. Richard Langtry hadn’t been caught. I’d confirmed with Patrick, my inside man—something I should have done to verify once I first heard the news—and was already on the way in. I smelled a rat. Someone had gone through much effort to get me out of the house. Then Cathy called and my worst fear came through.

Fuck, I’d been so stupid, thinking she was safe with her father. I cursed at the traffic, honking my horn and hoping I wouldn’t be stopped by traffic cops. Minutes felt like hours. Her phone had gone dead and panic clogged my throat.

She was fine. She had to be fucking fine.

Was that Langtry bastard behind all of this? If I got my hands on him…

I couldn't lose Cathy now, not after everything we’d been through together in such a short time. We created a life together, so I kept telling myself it would all work out. But fury and frustration took over. I would never forgive myself if anything happened to her. squeezed the wheel so hard, I cut the circulation to my fingers.

Finally, after the slowest quarter hour in history, I got back to the house. I jumped out of the car, pulled out my gun, and quietly entered the house.

I checked every room on the main floor. coming up empty, I ran upstairs toward where she said she’d been hiding. I got to the last bedroom and noticed the door had been kicked in. I checked the room but nobody was there. In the bathroom, I found her phone on the floor. Whoever it had been had taken Cathy. I dragged my hand through my hair, pacing back and forth across the room and suppressing the urge to punch the wall.

Cathy had been taken from me.

I rushed downstairs, straight to Roger's office. Luckily he was slowly coming around, so I proceeded to untie him.

"Lennox, what the hell is going on?" he asked in a weak voice, wincing.

“Maybe I should ask you that question first.”

“I … have no idea. Someone hit me from behind and … I can’t remember anything else.” When I freed him, he raised a hand to his nape and hissed. I looked at the spot. No broken skin but a nasty bruise had formed.

But Cathy was in danger and couldn’t waste more time. "Sir, your daughter was kidnapped. Are you sure you can’t remember anything? She said she walked in on someone restraining you to the chair earlier."

Rogers looked pale and disoriented.
